Is Lasik Eye Surgery Always Successful?

With over 75% of the population wearing some form of eye correction, there is a consistently increasing need and demand for new methods of treating poor vision. Though the normal practice of wearing corrective eyeglasses and contact lenses has been sufficient enough to still be in use, most people wearing them do so despite considerable inconvenience and, at times, discomfort. This is why many people have recently sought to have presbyopia treatment procedures done, not just to cure their vision, but also to liberate them from having to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, in spite of what any patient or ophthalmologist may claim, Lasik eye surgery is not a guaranteed fix, as there may be different results from case to case.

With Lasik eye surgery, your eyes' corneas are reshaped by using lasers, which is intended to correct your vision and allow you to see better. Ideally, this process will correct a person's vision problems completely, freeing them from having to wear corrective eyeglasses or contacts ever again. In most cases, though the patient's eyesight can be drastically improved, it is not always 100% corrected. Sometimes a patient will have to continue wearing glasses to see at certain distances, or possibly have to return for further procedures to help get their vision closer to 100%.

In some other rare cases, the patient may return to her ophthalmologist to report that there has been neither a positive nor negative change to their vision. There are different possible reasons for this outcome, ranging from an inadequately performed procedure, to the possibility that the particular eye condition cannot be corrected with Lasik surgery. Should this happen, most ophthalmologists will simply have the patient return for additional surgery with the intent of properly performing the procedure and correcting the issue once and for all. Of course, in this process the patient should demand that she not pay more money for the extra procedure, since there was nothing done on her part to require such. Look for the best eye doctors.

In other, similarly rare situations, patients have reported a significant worsening of their vision after Lasik surgery. The majority of these situations are the result, again, of a surgeon's ineptitude, where some aspect of the preparatory guidelines or some part of the surgical sequence was not properly adhered to. In the most extreme instances, patients have suffered complete vision loss. In the time leading up to the surgery, most ophthalmologists will remind the patient that such an unfavorable outcomes are possible, if even only slightly less so than the most positive outcomes.

As you can see, there is no single outcome to Lasik eye surgery, with each result being determined by a number of situational factors that change from case to case. Although the patient can only control so many of these factors, the most important thing that can be done is thoroughly research all of the available options regarding Lasik surgeons.

LASIK eye surgery results have continued to improve, along with supporting technology and surgeon skill, which should offer some reassurance to candidates who are unsure about what to expect. One of the best ways of determining the effects of refractive surgery (LASIK procedure) on binocular vision is by comparing binocular vision pre-surgery values against post-surgery values. Have your LASIK eye surgery in San Diego, there is a very well known doctor Dr. Michael Tracy, he is a American Board Certified Ophthalmology.
